Uruguay knocked out Portugal on Saturday to advance to the quarterfinal of the FIFA World Cup in Sochi, Russia, leaving Cristiano Ronaldo without a goal in the knockout stages of the world’s pre-eminent football tournament.

Edinson Cavani scored twice to lead Uruguay to a 2-1 victory over Portugal. Uruguay on Friday will play France, which defeated Argentina 4-3 earlier in the day.
