‘Be a radical. Be different. Be a change leader. Innovate. It’s your generation’s turn to govern. Go for it. But please leave our bad habit of using partisan language “Us vs Them” “Rep vs Dem” “Libs vs Cons” behind. We are all in this together. Change the Game to Change the World.’

That’s Mark Cuban, the outspoken billionaire whose name has been floated as a potential presidential candidate, offering some words of wisdom[1] via Twitter TWTR, +4.14%[2]  to newly seated House member Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

“Pelosi = McCarthy = Schumer = McConnell = all the same,” Cuban continued. “Now would be a great time for the new generation of politicians, across the board, to take a new approach. We need you to represent us all. The partisan approach doesn’t work.”

His advice was prompted by a Twitter tangle Ocasio-Cortez got into recently with the GOP’s Steve Scalise over her proposed tax on the rich.

It all started with this tweet:

Republicans: Let Americans keep more of their own hard-earned money
Democrats: Take away 70% of your income and give it to leftist fantasy programs https://t.co/NxJPSCqvrt[3]

— Steve Scalise (@SteveScalise) January 5, 2019[4]

Then, Ocasio-Cortez responded:

You’re the GOP Minority Whip. How do you not know how marginal tax rates work?

Oh that’s right, almost forgot: GOP works for the corporate CEOs showering themselves in multi-million💰bonuses; not the actual working people whose wages + healthcare they’re ripping off for profit. https://t.co/R1YIng2Ok1[5]

— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) January 6, 2019[6]

In that “60 Minutes” interview[7] tweeted by Scalise, Ocasio-Cortez suggested that the wealthiest Americans ought to pay a marginal tax rate of as high as 70% to fund a “Green New Deal.”

“It only has ever been radicals that have changed this country,” she said. “Abraham Lincoln made the radical decision to sign the Emancipation Proclamation. Franklin Delano Roosevelt made the radical decision to embark on establishing programs like Social Security. If that’s what radical means, call me a radical.”...
