Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the Democrat of New York, triggered that response thanks to her continued call to
abolish the Electoral College[4], which has handed the presidency to a candidate who lost the popular vote on five occasions, including Trump in the 2016 election. “If the GOP were the ‘silent majority’ they claim, they wouldn’t be so scared of a popular vote,” she
tweeted last week[5]. “They *know* they aren’t the majority. They rely on establishing minority rule for power.” Clearly, judging from the email above, the president vehemently disagrees with her position — at least what’s interpreted as her position by her detractors — that “coastal liberals in New York and California should have all the power” and that “Patriotic Americans” don’t deserve a voice. Apparently, 2012 Donald Trump didn’t see it that way: The electoral college is a disaster for a democracy.— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump)
November 7, 2012[6] Sure, times change, people change. Maybe Trump has since realized the merits of a system that allowed him to become president. Or perhaps he’s just pandering to his base. Either way, Ocasio-Cortez
finished him off with[7]: “I’m so glad the president and I agree that the Electoral College has got to go.” References
