Republican Rep. Louie Gohmert[1] on Thursday blasted FBI agent Peter Strzok[2] for his affair with former FBI attorney Lisa Page[3], drawing outrage from his Democratic cohorts.
Mr. Strzok[4] was testifying before the House Judiciary and Oversight and Government Reform committees investigating the FBI and Justice Department’s role investigating the 2016 presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and President Trump[5].
During a question, Mr. Gohmert[6] accused Mr. Strzok[7] of lying under oath and embarrassing the FBI.
“You’ve embarrassed them,” the Texas Republican said. “You’ve embarrassed yourself. I can’t help wonder when I see you looking there with a little smirk, how many times did you look so innocent into your wife’s eyes and lie to her about —”
Mr. Strzok[8] interrupted the lawmaker before he could finish his question.
“Your decision to bring up my wife, a person I have acknowledge I have hurt, says more about your character than mine, sir,” he said.
Democrats on the committees erupted, with one yelling that Mr. Gohmert[9]’s question was “intolerable harassment of a witness!”...
Mr. Strzok[10] and Ms. Page[11] are at the center of a political firestorm over a texts they exchanged disparaging President Trump[12] while part of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian collusion with the Trump campaign.
